Formal Town House Garden
Truro

This was a long thin walled garden behind a pretty terraced house with a straight path, with overgrown narrow beds and a patchy lawn.  The client wanted a Roy Strong-influenced design with a very formal layout which had to retain a practical route through the garden to the car park space at the end.

The solution was to divide the space into sections, each with a different layout and colour theme: a paved terrace wrapping around the house with hot colours, a square pattern of slate and setts with predominantly pinks, a circular white garden with box edging, a blue garden with stone walls, a tropical woodland under a large conifer etc. Many of the materials were reclaimed from the garden and given a new lease of life.

Cathy’s designs were exemplary, showing me what would be planted where and setting out clearly the work to be done to create the hard landscaping.  Her after care is wonderful too - she genuinely wants to know how the garden is developing as the planting matures.
