Large Sunken Garden
Feock
The garden of this newly built house was a blank canvas with a large terrace and sloping lawn, with lovely glimpses of the creek beyond. The brief was to settle the rather imposing house into the landscape and to add more interest further down the garden. The clients specifically did not want to do too much gardening as they had recently sold a house due to the huge gardening workload.
Two raised beds and further wide steps were built to accommodate the steep slopes next to the terrace and these were planted with a repeating pattern of soft grasses and perennials. A large sunken circular area was cut into the gradient further down the garden to provide a home for an evening seating area and large fire pit (yet to be installed). The new and establishing planting in this area includes palms, grasses, succulents, bulbs and wafting perennials to give a contemporary Cornish feel.
